The Solar System

Putting the planets into perspective
~ A post by Janelle Neil, Head of School and science teacher

Want to know just how far away the planets are in relationship to the sun?  We’ve solved the problem with toilet paper graphing!   In our experiment we determined the sun was represented by a circle 20 TP squares in diameter. Mercury is 1.9 TP squares away (or a mere 35,983,610 miles) from the sun, while Neptune is a whopping 150 TP squares away – or 2,798,8432,000 miles away!    Anyway we had a blast.
