Inspired by Nature, Assembled in Art

Gather is a word that is often used during Thanksgiving… families and friends gathering to celebrate; the original harvest gathering of English settlers and members of the Wampanoag tribe; “We gather together…”

At Academy Schools, Pre-K students were asked to ‘gather’ leaves, pine cones, acorns and other natural materials for a craft project in art class. My husband and I also ‘gathered’ during a recent walk with our dogs in Seward Park. The results of this collective ‘gathering’ truly exemplified fall in the Pacific Northwest.

Pre-K students selected the elements they wished to include in their craft project: a natural wreath to hang at home as a symbol of welcome to those ‘gathering’ to celebrate Thanksgiving. I hope you enjoy these pictures of the end results!
