Winter Chess Championship

In January, one of Academy Schools’ own joined a slew of other student chess aficionados at the Washington State High School Individual Championship at Lakeside Upper School in Seattle for two days of rigorous timed (Double Swiss) play. Jack gave it his all, played 10 games over two days, and earned 12th place in the Individual Championship Section Reserve category. Everyone at Academy Schools is so proud of Jack! He proved his skill and determination – and represented his school well. Congratulations, Jack!

Super Bowl Fever

When the Seattle Seahawks meet the Denver Broncos this Sunday, February 2nd, in New Jersey, the roar of the fans will be heard all the way from Tukwila! The Rubik’s Cube Club, also known as AS3, is great at solving complex puzzles. This week, in honor of the upcoming competition, Colton designed the mosaic which constituted 225 individual squares. The students had to solve 25 cubes to create the design. Colton and Emily executed the design, with oversight by Mrs. Malone. These Are Not Lincoln Logs !

By Amanda Monger I can’t believe how incredibly proud I am of my Rubik’s Club kids! We started off our club in October with many of us not even knowing how to work on a Rubik’s cube. We worked together to learn the patterns we needed to solve the cube. It was always challenging but sometimes frustrating and they stuck with it. We then moved into using our new-found skills to learning how to follow diagrams to create mosaics out of 300 cubes. Can You Cube? A Report from Academy Schools’ Rubik’s Club

By Amanda Monger We all know how to do at least the first 2 steps on the Rubik’s Cube so far this year. As a large group we solved parts of the mosaics but last month Colton, Emily, Connor and I finished our first full mosaic. We were very excited and it looked great!
