Academy Schools’ Class of 2014

This year’s graduates from Academy Schools – the Class of 2014 – are truly men of honor. They imbue the qualities that we all admire most… Leadership, Integrity, Family, Teamwork. They are solid citizens, friends, bright and talented, inspired and focused.

Loyalty – At a banquet held this spring for newly awarded Eagle Scouts, Zachary rubbed elbows with local and nationally known leaders such as J. Lennox Scott, Governor Jay Inslee, Jeff Bezos and others. Yet he was more excited to speak about the National Youth Leadership Training course he took with his “brothers” in the Scouts, the culmination of years of being an active member of Boy Scouts of America. Zach’s quiet demeanor and genuine self-confidence set him apart from others. He talked about his future, which includes taking courses in business management at Bellevue College, working in his family’s small enterprise, and a road trip! And he also spoke about his past; his old high school where nobody had his back; the inspiration he received from Mrs. Malone and Dr. Boomhower where the only option is to pass; the values he has gained from being a Scout.

Honor – Parmveer (or Parm, as most of us call him) is headed in a different direction – a path drawn partially from inspiration from his years at Academy Schools, and partially from his own observations and personal motivations. Parm wants to be a doctor, but not just any doctor… He speaks of emergency medicine, trauma care, Doctors Without Borders. This young man wants to make a difference in the lives of others. He also wants to travel, but not your Travel + Leisure style of traveling. He wants to ‘live’ the world and immerse himself in local cultures; experiential and authentic. And Parm wants to study film, as an actor, a producer, a director. He credits Mr. Ross with bringing out his creative, dramatic side, saying that without the exposure he had at Academy Schools, his desire to express himself through film would not have been on his radar. This goal-oriented, kid loving, mixed martial arts fighter has a glorious future in his crosshairs.

Excellence – When it comes to future focus, everyone better start running to keep up with Chris. When he starts at U.W. this fall, he begins with almost enough credits to hold an Associate of Arts degree, thanks to Running Start. While Chis is thinking he might eventually major in Computer Science, he looks forward to taking a wide variety of courses, from humanities to math and even writing fiction. Flexibility is what benefits Chris best… in teaching, in learning, in life. Of his Academy Schools years, Chris says Mr. Huggins is the greatest math teacher ever. Pre-Calculus was a breeze. He liked that Dr. Boomhower plays the devil’s advocate. The teachers at Academy Schools “make you think; defy the herd mentality.” So what does Chris consider his ‘hobby’ or personal leisure activity? How about being a commentator for video game competitions/tournaments…let the game battles begin!
